The Henry Tudor Drama Company explores the life and times of our favourite Historical Queen.
Welcome to my website, a free interactive history site for students of Queen Elizabeth I. I will strive to bring it up to the standard and detail of my father's website www.HenryTudor.co.uk so keep coming back to see how it is being developed.

I may be my Father's daughter but I strive to be like my Mother.

The Lady Elizabeth
By Henry Tudor

She understands me well enough
Her brain is full of clever stuff.
Her brother and sister still love her so
They do not consider her a foe.

Poor old Edward, sick of breath
Won’t live long, an early death.
From her position on the wall
She watched as Mary began to fall.

And Mary’s throne, did she berate
By marrying Spain, that people hate.
So the people sick of fire and death
Told poor Mary in one whole breath.

Give us back old Harry’s Church
We were freer then, not in the lurch.
The smoke never cleared, the people never cheered
And Mary the Queen never revered.

She took the gauntlet to the throne
Elizabeth, finally came home.
She will fight the Spanish, from their claim
And England’s land they’ll never gain.

She’ll be the greatest monarch seen
She’s not a lady, she is Our Queen!

If I had to explain my personality in a nutshell, that is within the limits of what I want to let you know, then I would try to put you in a similar situation and you could then understand much easier.
I was a beautiful girl with red hair, my Princess looks hid the real truth about living in fear and the knowledge of how my Mother died, always in the background. I will not mislead you in any way. Parents in my day were not that close to their children when high in the nobility, we had maid servants who were closer, Nanny’s who were more Maternal and loving. My Mother, Ann, she was my Birth Mother and I may have seen her once per day for a few minutes if I was lucky. I respected her as my Mother as I respected my father, the King. Maybe, I was too young at the time of her death to be told the horrible truth about the circumstances, maybe I was just being protected so I could not say a word against the King. It was only when Queen Catherine, my step Mother, was executed that I found out that my Mother had gone the same way. This was at the age of eight, old enough to know fear and develop hatred. Yes hatred, for my Father and his court of cronies.

It was this time that I started being very careful, my close servants, friends, all helped me keep away from the political arena of the Court. If he could kill his wives he could kill his children! Imagine that thought at the back of your mind it would change your character to one of cautious indecision. Mary, well she was another problem. Her over powering religious self, always on her Mother defence and so impressed by Spanish reputations, she was my bossy figure in my early years before Edward was born. Edward calmed her down, because now she saw the throne disappear into the male line system and knew that in order to survive she needed to comply with family values, at least in front of our Father and his court. Out of their sight she was horrible to me both verbally and cold in her relationship to my presence. Edward was her favourite, he was cute and going to be King one day so he was her target for affection, me, I was only the third in line and if Father had had any more sons, I would move further away from the throne. Not worth developing was the view in Mary’s mind.
When Father died, it was a relief all round, not just the removal of fear of his temper and cruelty but also now Edward would be King. His Uncle Seymour had the power then, his religious views being more of the status quo and not so dogmatic as Mary, who now was keeping her views quiet and treating me a little better. Our Stepmother Catherine Parr was good to us, she brought us closer together than we had ever been before and when Father died we lived with her for a while. Here death was so sad for me to cope with, it was probably at this time I started to keep a distance in my emotional being from any sort of relationship. My sole being was to survive in my cruel dangerous world of Royalty.
